What is Charlie holding? (This photo becomes relevant in the movie)
THE OCCASIONAL FISH This female brown trout was RELEASED (as were all the fish we caught) about 12 seconds after briefly posing for the camera.
It is an incredible privilege to be able to spend a day in a stream and catch AN OCCASIONAL FISH . I was about seven years old the first time I held a fishing rod. It made me feel very important to be entrusted with such a valuable and fine device. The cork had a smooth feel, the line had a pleasant texture and the clicking of the reel was a heads-up that something was happening. Although many years have passed those things haven't changed. I still anticipate handling the gear that enables me to connect to the stream and those incredible creatures - the fish. The first bass I caught was a 21 1/2 inch smallmouth who jumped clear out of the water while grabbing my lure. Do think that left a memory? My uncle Red took me to a clear, fast, freestone stream one day. There a brook trout jolted my rod so hard, that when it struck, I thought it had to be a huge fish. It had red spots encircled with white circles that lay on a bed of olive green. It was seven inches long. How could something so small fight so hard? I love all types of fishing, but that day trout fishing captured my heart. Uncle Red called that fish a native. In those days they called stream bred trout natives. Today we call them wild trout. Later, I learned about wild rainbows in tiny streams (tribs) that fed into the stocked streams. I love trout fishing and hope to share some of my findings with you in the coming months.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was May. I neglected my writing and filmmaking. The days were longer, the waters lower, the streams warmer and the Mayflies were hatching. I went fishing. To make it up, I'll share an article that I was asked to publish in an outdoors blog. Focus on the tips, not the locations.
The Top 5 Spots for Trout Fishing in NEPA I was taught to fish by my uncles using bait, for bass, pan-fish, pickerel and walleyes. Later when I was old enough to wade in a current, they introduced me to trout fishing using bait. In those days we kept and ate the fish we caught. Today I am a fly fisherman. I have the most success fishing for trout. The reason for that is, because that is what I spend most of my fishing time doing. Now-a-days I release the fish I catch unharmed. HOW TO ACCESSORIZE YOUR WADING STAFF!
Fisherman's Wind Poem included
Women are famous for accessories, but fly fishermen have them beat by a country mile. If you don’t believe me just eyeball any fishing vest or gear lanyard on the water. There lives numerous glittering, but needed objects – fly-flotant, fly-sinkant, split shot, sink putty, strike indicators, nippers, leaders, flies, fishing license, hemostat, knot-tyers, leader-straightener, retractable devices, water bottle, landing, net, sun glasses, sun block, no wonder we are so tired after a days fishing. But of course all that weight (Like the contents of a woman’s purse.) is absolutely essential. It is a marvelous sight to behold. Think about it, all that gear is just the tip of the iceberg, there’s a lot more in the pockets of that fishing vest. Consider the many other doodads that go unseen. You’re thinking, “So many gadgets, so little time.” For those of you who just can’t go “lean and mean”, who are suckers for every infomercial, who know that one more thingamajig will transfer you to the next level of fishing, I will enlighten you on how to accessorize the wading stick you have built…… Click for free download <click --------------------------------------------------------
SELFISH WADING – Part II- according to Fly Wrod HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN WADING STAFF!
You may be able to find, beg, borrow or trade something (Example = your wife’s cat) for the tools and materials needed to make this device. All that’s needed now are my svelte instructions and your manly know how.
This staff can double as a hiking stick for walking to fishing destinations and for climbing or descending steep trails or river banks. It may keep away fearless critters, snakes or a territorial dog. Use it as a makeshift lean-to brace against a tree, with a poncho thrown over it during an unexpected downpour. Other uses include use as a Polynesian nose flute, or huge whistle (special knowledge outside the range of this writing is required for the making of last two suggested uses). I’m joking about the flute and the whistle idea. But I’m not joking about the need to wade safely…...........click for free download < click
WHY MAKE YOUR OWN WADING STAFF As a Pennsylvania boy, trout fishing means wading in streams and rivers. Yes, there are lakes that hold trout, but the majority of PA trout angling takes place in moving water. The combination of fast currents and a loose slippery stream bottom are a constant and ever present danger, causing people to fall into the water while fishing. Stories circulate about stream borne accidents that end in injury or worse. You have to keep yourself safe when wading alone. Don’t put your guide in the position of jumping into cold, dangerous water. If you must wade deep or if you are not as sure-footed as you once were, wade safely, use a wading stick….......... click for free download < click
